Gramophone

The Gramophone is an antique music player that randomly starts playing a Swedish folk song about a skull. It is a trap valuable, and the trap is a monster magnet.

What it is

A Medium valuable worth $2,000 to $3,000, mass 2. When a player grabs it there is a random chance it activates, after which it plays music with a 17.5-unit noise radius, audible to enemies once per second for as long as it runs. The song is in Swedish and translates roughly to a floating thing with no limbs or body, lamps glittering happily, and a skull arriving to play a trick.

Handling it

The activation is random and grab-triggered, so the risk scales with how often you pick it up. Move it once, directly to where it is going. If it does start playing, the noise is the problem, not the value — get it into the extraction point or accept that everything on the floor now knows roughly where you are. It shares this behaviour with the Radio and the Television, and having two of the three in the same C.A.R.T. is a genuinely bad idea.

REPODLE hints

Gramophone, Clown Doll and Old Camera are identical on size, value and mass in Headman Manor. There is no stat column that separates them — this is the loot dataset's tightest three-way tie, and the only way through it is guessing one of the three and reading the result.
