Behaviour
Bangers spawn in groups of three — six if they are standing in for a Level 3 monster on the early floors — and wander together. Alert one and its fuse lights, at which point the explosion is guaranteed: nothing you do will put it out. It charges the nearest semibot and detonates after fourteen or fifteen seconds, launching anyone in the blast and dealing 30 damage to anyone too close. Kill it while the fuse burns and you get a smaller death explosion instead, worth 15 damage. Worst of all, one Banger caught in another Banger blast detonates too, which is how a group of three becomes a chain reaction.
How to survive it
Listen for the fuse — there are three distinct sounds, a weak fuse at around ten seconds out, a strong fuse at four, and a shout immediately before detonation. Get away from your teammates and your valuables the moment a group gives chase, because collateral damage is the real cost. Stairs are your friend: a Banger has to hop each individual step, so a staircase usually buys enough time for it to explode harmlessly below you. Alternatively, slam an ignited one twice and throw it — into a pit, or at a Level 3 monster, where it makes an excellent grenade.
REPODLE hints
No orb is the shortcut. Only Banger, Gnome and Tick drop nothing, and all three share a strength breakpoint of 0 and a Very Light or Light weight class. Damage separates them cleanly: Banger 15, Gnome 10, Tick 10 — and of the two tied at 10, the Gnome has 20 health against the Tick's 10. If you see no orb and 15 damage, stop guessing and lock in the Banger.
