What it does
Using one walkie shows you a grayscale point of view from the other, and lets you look around and nudge it slightly. Battery life and range are both infinite. The antenna light reports the other walkie's state: grey for lying unheld on the floor, green for out in the open and ready, yellow for stashed in a player's inventory, red for destroyed — a destroyed walkie is gone for the rest of the level and returns next level. When a player is using it, the antenna shows that player's colour and their voice comes through higher-pitched. They cannot be used inside a Service Station, since they stay boxed until purchased.
How to use it
Hide before you call: a player mid-call can be attacked, and monsters ignore the walkies themselves. Solo, park one walkie in the truck or a key room and check it remotely instead of walking back — monsters do not attack them, so it is a completely safe scouting camera. The antenna colours double as a status readout on a teammate: yellow means they are alive and carrying it, red usually means they fell into a pit, and green with a floor-level view usually means they died and dropped it, in which case you can look around for their head and equipment.
REPODLE hints
It shares the Utility effect type with only the Void Staff, and the two disagree on category, price and rechargeability. Its more useful marker is that it is one of very few Utility items that is not rechargeable — in the $22,000 tier it is the only non-rechargeable entry at all.
